BMO Canadian Defense Community Banking Review

  • October 5, 2020March 3, 2021

The decision to serve one’s country brings with it a certain amount of respect, as well as unique opportunities and rewards. The Bank of Montreal wants to make sure they’re doing their part when it comes to showing due appreciation, and one of the many ways they’ve done so is by creating the Canadian Defense Community Banking (CDCB) program. The CDCB program makes exclusive benefits and banking products available to all members of the Canadian Forces community and members of their family.

This includes all active and reserve Canadian Armed Forces members, DND and NPF staff, and RCMP members or employees. There are numerous benefits to the CDCB program, but we’ll start by highlighting the various credit card opportunities that come with membership.

BMO Armed Forces Credit Cards

Once accepted into the CDCB program, members will be able to choose from several credit cards, including no-annual-fee cards and rewards cards.

For no annual fee cards, members can choose the No Fee Air or No Fee CashBack card. The former gives 1 AIR MILES reward point per $20 spent, while the latter awards 1% cash back on every purchase.

For those willing pay an annual fee, there are two other cards to choose from: the AIR MILES World or CashBack World card. These are very similar to the no-fee cards, except they allow users to rack up rewards more quickly. The AIR MILES World card offers 1 point per $15 spent, while the CashBack World card awards $1.25 for every $100 spent on the card. Both World cards also include BMO World MasterCard Travel Protection and Concierge Service.

Each of these four cards includes numerous other benefits, including discounts for car rentals and low interest rates.

Other Benefits of the CDCB Banking Program

Aside from their great credit card deals for service members, BMO’s CDCB Program also offers access to exclusive military mortgage rates, wartime mortgage protection, and special mortgage options for members who are relocated or deployed. BMO even gives preferred interest rates on CDCB Student Lines of Credit for those who qualify.

Of course, the program also includes the standard BMO products that their customers have to love:

  • Manage My Finances online financial management tool
  • BMO Online and Mobile Banking
  • Business banking solutions for small business owners
  • Free or discounted banking services starting at age 55
