Triangle™ Mastercard® Review

The Triangle Mastercard® is linked to Canadian Tire’s customer rewards program, so clients that frequently shop at this retailer (or their partner stores) might find value in applying for this credit product. While shoppers once received Canadian Tire “paper” money that they could collect and use towards future purchases, the rewards program has now gone digital with a Triangle Rewards loyalty card. The no-annual-fee Triangle Mastercard helps unleash added opportunities for customers of this brand to collect and save CT money, and offers other advantages.

Clients can earn CT money when they shop at Canadian Tire and participating partner retailers, as well as when they make purchases like gas, and groceries (excluding Costco and Walmart). The opportunities to collect CT money are as follows: customers earn 4% in CT money when purchasing items from Canadian Tire, Party City, Mark’s/L’Équipeur, Hockey Experts/L’Entrepôt du Hockey, Atmosphere, as well as Sports Rousseau. Cardholders also earn 1.5% in CT money when buying groceries (capped at $12,000 in the first year – after that, it’s 1%), and collect 5 cents per liter in CT cash when filling up at participating Husky stations. Clients earn 0.8% on all other purchases charged to the card.

Added perks to the card include access to exclusive Triangle bonus days for members only and CT money promotions for items within Canadian Tire and partnered stores, exclusive savings, and other events. As well, cardholders are offered no-fee and no-interest financing options for eligible purchases of $150+ at participating stores. No receipts are needed for returns (at participating stores) with the Mastercard, and there is a 24/7 customer service line dedicated to client needs.

CT money can be redeemed for items at Canadian Tire, as well as their partnered retailers, which include Party City, Mark’s/L’Équipeur, Atmosphere, Sports Expert store, Sports Rousseau, Hockey Experts, and L’Entrepôt du Hockey. One dollar in CT money equals $1 in free merchandise.

The bonus sign-up for the Triangle Mastercard is also quite lucrative. New cardholders can collect an additional 11% on the first purchase made at Canadian Tire and participating retailers within the first 30 days, on top of the 4% earned, which equals out to 15% back in CT money. It’s important to note, there is a cap of $50 in CT money earned.

One level up from the standard Triangle Mastercard is the Triangle World Mastercard. While it, too, is a no-annual-fee credit card, clients can enjoy the above rewards and benefits and also earn 7 cents in CT money for each litre on premium fuel, and 5 cents each litre on all other fuel at participating Husky locations.

Upgrade to the Triangle World Elite Mastercard. Clients receive all the rewards and promotions from both the standard Triangle Mastercard and Triangle World Mastercard, with some enhanced options. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard is a no-annual-fee credit card, too; however, customers earn 3% back in CT money when shopping for groceries (with Costco and Walmart excluded) in their first year, with a cap of $12,000 in earnings. Added benefits to the World Elite include 24/7 Concierge Service: a client can access this service to organize entertainment, dining, music, and other fun events. As well, Extended Warranty Insurance, Roadside Assistance Gold Plan, and Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver Insurance are provided with this credit card.

Eligibility requirements for the Triangle Mastercard include being a Canadian resident, at the age of majority for the province you reside in, and currently being employed or retired.

Requirements for the Triangle World Elite are the same as above, except clients need to have a personal income of at least $80,000. Customers can only apply for the Triangle Mastercard and Triangle World Mastercard online, while Triangle World Elite Mastercard clients are by invite-only, at this time.

Triangle Rewards has an app where clients can review the CT cash they’ve earned, access bonus events, as well as customized offers tailored to their preference, and review and manage their Mastercard account. The “Triangle App” is available for download at both the App Store and Google Play.
