Alaska Airlines World Elite® Mastercard® Credit Card Review

Offered through MBNA, the Alaska Airlines World Elite® Mastercard® Credit Card provides customers with the opportunity to earn rewards while using their credit card, and provides some interesting perks and benefits. The Mastercard is linked to the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, which is a customer loyalty program for those who frequently travel with the carrier, as well as their Oneworld Alliance and Global partners. Clients can collect Alaska Airlines “Miles” to redeem for flights to over 900+ destinations across the world.

The  Alaska Airlines World Elite® Mastercard® Credit Card comes with a significant welcome offer. Clients receive 30,000 bonus Miles when a minimum of $1,000 is spent on the account within the initial three months of opening. After that, 3 Miles are earned for each one dollar charged on Alaska Airlines flights, cargo services, and vacation packages. One Mile is collected for each one dollar spent on anything else.

There are additional travel perks linked to the credit card, which include one free checked bag for each qualifying reservation, as well as added price protection when it comes to flight fare. Each year, the Mastercard offers their customers an “Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare” on the account anniversary. This includes a round trip with Alaska Airlines for a friend, valued at $99 (USD), including taxes and fees.

Added benefits to the Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard include Protection Assurance, Extended Warranty, Price Protection, as well as discounts at both Budget and Avis rent-a-car companies. As this is a “World Elite” Mastercard, clients also gain access to the brand’s “VIP Experiences” program where they gain exclusive access to special offers and experiences. Lastly, the World Elite provides customers with a 24/7 Concierge Service to help with dinner reservations, travel needs, concert tickets, and so much more.

The annual fee for this credit card is set at $99. The eligibility requirements include a personal yearly income of $80,000+ or a household income of $150,000 or more. The interest rates for the Alaska Airlines World Elite Mastercard are standard, with 19.99% for purchases, and 22.99% for cheques, balance transfers, and cash advances.

Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus® Mastercard® Credit Card

Consider also the Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus® Mastercard® credit card. The annual fee for this card is slightly lower at $75 and there are no income requirements; however, it still offers plenty of rewards, perks, and benefits.

The sign-up bonus is 20,000 Miles after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening the account. This card also earns clients 3 Miles for every one dollar charged on Alaska Airlines flights, cargo services, and vacation packages. One Mile is earned for each one dollar spent on anything else. Much like the World Elite Mastercard highlighted above, Platinum Plus cardholders receive the “Alaska’s Famous Companion Fare” (valued at $99 USD), too.

Additional benefits on the Alaska Airlines Platinum Plus® Mastercard® credit card include Purchase Assurance and Extended Warranty protection, as well as discounts with Budget and Avis rent-a-car companies. Much like the World Elite, the Platinum Plus Mastercard has a standard purchase interest rate at 19.99%, with cash advances, balance transfers, and cheques set at 22.99%.

Each of the above Mastercards have pros and cons. While the World Elite offers a little more in terms of benefits, perks, and a larger welcome offer, it does come with a higher annual rate. For those that don’t want or need all the “bells and whistles”, the Platinum Plus might be the right choice.

The good news is that both credit cards provide clients with the peace of mind in knowing they can take their Mastercard anywhere across the globe, and it is sure to be accepted when shopping, dining, as well as for other special events, and travel experiences. Both Mastercards also offer clients key daily customer support. Mastercard’s “Emergency Services” line helps clients who are dealing with a lost card. Lastly, the “Away from Home” program provides customers with support when traveling by offering help with Lost Document and Ticket Replacement, Pre-trip info., Lost Luggage Protection, and Legal Assistance.
