WestJet RBC® Mastercard Review

For clients who love to travel, the WestJet RBC Mastercard might be a credit card option worth looking at. For a limited time, new account holders can earn up to 100 WestJet dollars after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days of owning the Mastercard. In addition to this, customers get a round-trip companion voucher each year, starting from $199 CAD (plus fees, taxes, and charges). This round-trip voucher can be used within Canada, as well as the continental United States.

There’s also a rewards component with the WestJet RBC Mastercard. Customers earn 1.5% back in WestJet dollars when they charge WestJet Vacations packages or flights on the card, and 1% is earned on all other spending. WestJet dollars can be placed towards part, or all, of a WestJet flight or Vacations package. Plus, these rewards can be redeemed at any time. Lastly, WestJet dollars don’t expire, and there are no blackout dates for redeeming them.

The WestJet RBC® Mastercard has added benefits and perks, too. When clients link this credit card to their Petro-Canada Petro-Points customer loyalty card, they instantly save 3 cents per litre when gassing up at participating stations. They also earn 20% more in Petro-Points, which can really add up.

Customers can also collect added Be Well points when shopping at Rexall. When the credit card is linked, clients earn 50 Be Well rewards for every dollar spent on eligible products at the store. Earning 25,000 of these points equals $10, which can be redeemed when shopping at participating Rexall locations.

Lastly, there is a wide variety of travel insurance that comes with the WestJet RBC Mastercard. From protection that includes rental car collision and damage to hotel theft, Travel Accident Insurance, as well as Emergency Purchases, Purchase Security, and Extended Warranty, this credit card has customers “covered” while traveling away from home, and around their community.

The annual fee for this Mastercard is $39, with an additional card costing $19 each year. The purchase interest rate is at 19.99% and the cash advance rate is set at 22.99%.

While the WestJet RBC® Mastercard is a great travel reward credit card, it’s important to note that there is a “level up” option in the form of World Elite.

    WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard

Clients interested in this credit card should note that the annual ($119) and secondary card ($59) fees are a bit higher, but might be worth it considering all the added perks and bonuses that come along with the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard

The welcome offer is 350 WestJet dollars, upon first purchase. As well, for the first three months, customers have the opportunity to earn 2x the WestJet dollars, while shopping at restaurants, food delivery, or grocery stores. Additionally, while flying, the first checked bags are free for the primary Mastercard holder and up to eight guests on WestJet flights.

Each year, WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard members are given a round-trip companion voucher to anywhere the air carrier flies. Clients can book a full fare, then book for a friend for free within Canada or the continental United States, Hawaii, the Caribbean, or Mexico. The annual companion voucher also allows for a $399 charge (economy fares, plus fees, taxes, and other charges) for the rest of the airline’s network. Customers can also choose to exchange this companion voucher for four lounge vouchers.

Clients can also earn more WestJet dollars with the World Elite. Mastercard members on this card collect 2% back on WestJet Vacations packages and flights, as well as 1.5% back on everything else, charged to the card. Cardholders also gain access to “member exclusive” fares, which offer added savings and discounts.

In addition to earning more points, WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard holders get some other perks: free Boingo Wi-Fi, with over one million hotspots across the world, and clients are given a complimentary membership to Mastercard’s Airport Experiences, via LoungeKey. World Elite Mastercard members gain access to over 800 airport lounges across the globe, as well as special offers from luxury brands. It’s important to note, some fees may apply for lounge access, and customers are asked to download an app on their smartphone.

Lastly, the World Elite offers broader insurance coverage for clients. In addition to what the standard WestJet RBC Mastercard provides. It also includes Emergency Medical Insurance, Trip Interruption, and Flight Delay coverage. As well, clients of the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard are given the same opportunities for fuel savings and bonus-point earning potential through Petro-Canada and Rexall if they link their customer loyalty cards.

This credit card requires a minimum household income of $150,000 or a personal income of $80,000.
